János Tőke was born in 1980 in Zenta/Senta (former Yugoslavia). He completed elementary school and high school in his city of birth and earned a BA in Andragogy from the Gyula Juhász School of Education of the Szeged University of Sciences, Hungary.

János began his career in journalism at the weekly Képes Ifjúság (Illustrated Youth), but quickly moved on to the daily newspaper Magyar Szó (Hungarian Word), where he worked as a sports writer for five years before becoming editor of the Sports section in June 2008.

In October 2017, he became the Senior Editor of the weekly magazine Családi Kör (Family Circle) and of the Szabad Magyar Szó (Free Hungarian Word) news portal, both published by the Foundation.

János also writes for Budapest-based Nemzeti Sport (National Sports) as its permanent commentator for the entire territory of former Yugoslavia. He also appears once a week as a regular sports commentator for the Zenta-based No Limit Radio.

Previously, János had worked for BETA News Agency, Belgrade, and for the Vajdaság Ma (Vojvodina Today) news portal as its sports editor for over a decade.

János won Serbia’s junior national team championship in table tennis, was a member of Serbia–Montenegro’s Junior National Team, and played in the country’s Super League for two years as a member of the Zenta Table Tennis Club.

János is married and has two children.
