Imre Tóth was born in 1974 in Szabadka/Subotica, where he earned a violinist and music associate diploma at the music secondary school. He continued his music studies under Péter Masopust at the Ferenc Liszt Conservatory of Music in Szeged. He worked as a teacher for a few years, then in 2000, he got a job at Radio Szabadka. He spent twenty years as music editor, journalist, and presenter at what was once the most popular radio station in Vojvodina. He remained loyal to the institution even in the most difficult times, persisting until the last moment while public service content was being produced on the radio.
Imre launched into journalism and photography as a child. After the Jó Pajtás weekly, he started to work for the youth weekly magazine Képes Ifjúság. From 2013 to 2016, he also worked as a permanent contributor to Hét Nap weekly, in parallel with Szabadkai Radio.
After the privatization of Szabadkai Rádió in October 2016, he was invited to the Szabad Magyar Szó team, and then in 2017, he joined the staff of the weekly magazine Családi Kör.
Although he works as a journalist, he has not turned away from music. During his career, he founded and was a member of the Garden Quartet for ten years, and participated in the reorganization of Serbia’s oldest symphony orchestra, the Subotica Philharmonic. Between 2006 and 2016, he organized many concerts in Subotica and other cities. He participated in numerous theater productions with his orchestras, and his string quartet gained international recognition.
Imre Tóth is married and the father of two daughters.
